Dividends for Index CFDs

Dividend withholding tax by country

When you hold a share CFD position over an ex-dividend date, a cash adjustment is applied to your account. If you are long, your account will be credited with the dividend. If you are short, your account will be debited. The amount you receive or pay depends on the gross dividend, minus any withholding tax applied by the country where the underlying share is listed.   

Withholding tax is a percentage automatically deducted by that country's tax authority before the dividend reaches you. 

Example:  

If you hold a long position on a US stock that pays a $1.00 dividend per share, you would receive 70% of that – $0.70 – as a 30% withholding tax applies.
